AMENITIES
The Great Hall
The Great Hall and club room has a full size billiard table, table tennis, chess and music system for lazy afternoons and late night parties.
We also have outdoor games available such as boules, football and paddling pool in summer
Dining
When it comes to food and drink, La Chevalerie has a variety of options to choose from.
Seafood is in abundance with Spider Crabs, Rock Oysters and Moules freshly available. Carteret has a string of fine fish restaurants near the sea front, with La Potiniere boasting the best location on the beach.
This is apple country and Calvados and Cider are served as an aperitif, long drink or in elaborate dishes and pastries like Tarte Normande. Local cheeses Camembert and Pont L’Eveque are classic Normandy flavours along with salted lamb and succulent pork.
We can highly recommend the smaller restaurants off the beaten track, that serve a traditional and reasonably priced Menu, like the newly owned Auberge de L’ouve on the banks of the Douve, where you can canoe down the river after a delicious steak and Calvados lunch.
Cycling
The property is situated in a region that is home to some of the most beautiful cycling routes in France, making it an ideal destination for both amateur and professional riders.
There are over 300 miles of cycling routes to choose from in Normandy, with dramatic coastline, stunning forests and challenging country lanes.
You can cycle from the D Day Landing beaches to the Mont-Saint-Michel along the Velo/West Normandy route, passing through charming villages, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding Marais.
Walks
Picauville is a great destination for those who love to explore on foot.
Aside from the numerous D Day historical walking tours, you can opt for the One of the Picauville Nature Trail, which winds its way through the surrounding forests and fields. This easy to moderate trail is perfect for a morning or afternoon walk, and offers beautiful views of the surrounding countryside.
There are more ambitious bracing coastal walks and inland strolls through river valleys. One hidden gem is the Suisse Normande area between Caen and Alencon, hilly, very pretty and peaceful.
cider tasting and local CAVES
There are some excellent local cider tastings in the region famous for its delicious “Cidre de Normandie” and Calvados. Half of France’s apples are produced in Normandy. Enjoy comparing the different flavours, with a more light yellow, citrus fruit version, alongside a darker orange blend, with aniseed and honey undertones. We can recommend cider tasting in Sainte- Mere- Eglise and at La Ferme Du Lavoir, near Omaha Beach.
